Our Light & Reflections Collaborative Series is back this month and its all about art!
My daughter has been really into glue lately so I wanted to created an open-ended art or craft activity that used the light table and some glue. I debated just letting her create on the light table itself but instead we used some Dollar Tree photo frames I had sitting out for another project.

Materials we used:
- Colored Glue (I just added food coloring to our white glue and mixed)
- Photo frame (Dollar Tree has all different sizes!)
- Polyfil pellets
- Light Table
For this kids activity I just pulled the back off a small frame we had, leaving the glass inside, placed it upside down on the light table and let the kids squeeze the glue onto the glass in the frame. Glue bottles are quite the workout for little hands!! Great for fine motor skills!
MB wanted to add some beads to hers so I gave her a container with some pollyfill pellets we had left over from our glowing letter search sensory bin.
I wasn’t really expecting to get a “product” out of this art project as I figured the glue would dry fairly clear so I could just peel or wash it off as I had other plans for these the frames but I was pleasantly surprised when I realized these are the perfect suncatcher craft!
Now depending on how much glue your little ones use this project may take a few days to dry. Thankfully we did this on a nice day so I put them in the sun and by the end of the afternoon they were nearly dry. That said if it hadn’t been such a sunny and warm day I’d expect them to dry like our no-cook Pony Bead Suncatchers did, taking several days.
Now head over and see what my blogging friends have come up with this month for our Light & Reflections Series:

Sand Art on the Light Table at Still Playing School
Abstract Window Art at And Next Comes L
Check back on the 2nd Monday of next month to see what we create for our “Build & Construct” theme and follow our Light & Reflections series on Pinterest!

I love that technique of making colored glue – it’s so simple it never would have occurred to me!

Did you close the back of the frame after? I would love to be able to do this and hang it in a window with the frame, suggestions?
Where Imagination Grows says
Hi Dina! I didn’t put the back on when we were done and we did hang them in our windows without it. The back of these frames where held in by little tabs that you fold down to hold the photo and back in place. I just folded the tabs over onto the glass when the glue was dry and it kept it the glass from falling out and allowed me to hang them on the window. 🙂
