I recently saw an article about activities and sensory ideas to do on a light table and was instantly hooked. It looks like so much fun and even simple ideas can morph into sensory experiences on light table! Who knows if my daycare kids or MB will think its as cool as I think it sounds but I’ve been on a mission to find me one!
I began looking around for a light table and was flabbergasted at the prices. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have $200+ laying around to just throw into a lighted table (and on that note, if you can afford one of these sweet gems, you are totally welcome to drop by my house for a play date with it and watch me drool!) so suddenly I pushed organizing my storage aside and creating a light table became my DIY project for the month.
I began to brainstorm ways to make my own on a budget. All the ideas that I had required a trip to goodwill and someone having donated the perfect table for me to deconstruct and then reconstruct. Mission not accomplished.
After a few weeks of coming up empty on my DIY light table ideas I sadly returned to my closet and storage organization project. That’s when I found it!
Christmas Lights + Storage Bin = Our DIY Light Table!
The only lights that I found while cleaning up our storage area were the multi colored strands but I know we have some white ones in our Christmas storage in the attic and I have recently seen them in the outdoor décor section at our local home improvement store. For the “table” I just emptied and flipped one of our Ikea Trofast bins and tada!!!! The light table was born!!
MB thought it was the cat’s meow and had a great time trying to grab the lights. I plan to tweak and adjust it (bigger box and white lights) eventually, but for now the activity planning begins! This one will work until I run across a table I can use to improve this model!
