Let’s make a crown craft together!!
If you have kids like my daughter and her friends then crown crafts are all the rage. My daughter loves all things princess and crowns are the ultimate craft for her. She loved the paper plate crown until it got left behind at the park.
This simple pony bead crown craft is so easy to set up and allows the kids to decorate princess crowns how they wanted. It’s great for quiet time too or as a busy bag activity as it keeps kids busy and engaged at the table. My daughter and her friends loved that it was ready to wear right away!

Pony Bead Crown Craft for Kids
Materials Needed for Crown Craft:
- Pony Beads
- Beading Wire
- Ribbon
- Jingle Bells
- Decorative beads (We used these Star Beads)
(We received our star beads and jingle bells free from CraftProjectIdeas.com, but you can find them at your local Walmart. Check out their website for super fun craft ideas!)
Measure out the beading wire so that it fits around your child’s head, leaving a bit of overlap to secure it together when your child is done. At one end I twisted the wire around a pony bead so that the beads wouldn’t fall off when the girls moved the wire.
I placed a handful of pony beads and the star beads in small containers and set them on our outside table.
We use pony beads a lot for creating (check out our Stick Wind Chimes or our Melted Bead Mobiles) and threading activities. The pony beads have wider holes so the daycare girls and my daughter (all 2.5yrs old) have no problems threading with them. The star beads, on the other hand, have smaller holes. We have tried using them for threading in the past but our fine motor skills weren’t quite developed enough for the smaller holes but on this day everyone was able to string the smaller beads onto the wire! They were very proud of themselves too!
When the kids had finished adding beads and bells to their crowns I gave them some long pieces of ribbon that I had tied a loop on one end of. The girls just threaded the ribbon loop onto the wire and we were ready to connect the two ends!
To connect them I simply twisted the ends together and then threaded the twisted part back through the beads on the end, that way the edges were in the center of a bead rather than hanging out and scratching hand or heads.
Tada! A simple, fun, and beautiful crown craft!
