My husband and I built a new home this year. I know you can claim your T/S% when you do remodeling of daycare areas, but I also see you have things like patios, concrete driveway, appliances, etc listed. Can I deduct any or all of my new build? T/S% of course. Thanks!

Hi Katherine. I know that you can claim the time-space % on the interest of your construction loan for the new home. I believe that you can depreciate your new home based on what you spent on it, minus the value of the land, over a time period of 39 years. I would check in with Tom Copeland for more accurate advice about this situation. He is a CPA that specializes in home daycare. Here is a link to an article on home depreciation by Tom: http://tomcopelandblog.com/how-to-depreciate-your-home you can also fill out his “Ask Tom” form and get a response.

Do you have a posting about breakfast, lunch, and snack menu ideas? That’ll be really nice to know about.

Hi Lisette,
I am wondering if you know the percentage of your income you should being spending on expenses for the daycare?
