The Cookie Thief is a cute story with bright illustrations that teaches kids about honesty. The main character, Thomas, is upset because everywhere he goes the cookies keep disappearing and Thomas likes cookies! With some encouragement from his friend they put together a plan to find out who the cookie thief is!
My daughter and the daycare girls where captivated the whole time trying to figure out who was responsible for the disappearance of the cookies. They were upset for poor Thomas who never got any cookies because they always disappeared from cookie jars, even well protected ones, whenever he was over to visit! The girls were excited to see the plan Thomas and his friend made up and to find out who was taking all those yummy cookies! Each child had their own guess as the story progressed as to who was taking the cookies.
When we discovered who the real cookie thief was the girls were full of ideas on how the cookie thief should have “shared” and what he should have done instead of taking them without asking. It also was an opportunity to talk about what happens when we do things that upset other or that we are not supposed to, the cause and effect of not telling the truth and how actions have consequences as Thomas learns at the end.
In addition to the lessons learned in the book I really liked the artwork and illustrations. They where bright and well done and I especially loved the expressions on the character’s faces throughout the book. It’s definitely a great book that kids love!
