Cotton Rounds Flower Craft for Kids
Materials Needed for this flower craft:
- Liquid Watercolors
- Cotton Rounds
- Dropper bottles or pipettes
- Glue (a hot glue gun works best)
- Pipe Cleaners
This flower craft started out as a simple fine motor process art activity and beginning science lesson in absorption for my preschoolers.
I filled our dropper bottles with liquid watercolors and set them out on a tray. A few of my younger ones like drowned their cotton rounds so I line the tray with paper or give them a sponge for when they are done.
If you don’t have a set of these dropper bottles I highly recommend them. We use ours all the time and they are easy for the kids to manipulate.
Working with droppers or pipettes is great way to strengthen fine motor skills and kids really enjoy them. Plus they work hand-eye coordination and encourage kids to take their time on the activity.
Once the kids were done we set the cotton rounds aside to dry, it took ours about a day.
The next step is to glue them onto a pipe cleaner. I didn’t get an pictures of the process as I let the kids help me with the glue gun. Really all we did was add a dollop of hot glue to one side of one of the cotton rounds and pinched it onto the pipe cleaner.
Pretty right? We have these all throughout the playroom. They definitely bring a splash of color to the house. The’d be a great craft to make for spring or even for Mother’s Day!
