I currently have a small felt board, it’s a cork board that I covered with felt. It was a thrown together project of felt scraps so its 4 pieced hot glued to the cork board. the kids really enjoy it so I decided to finally get my act together (sort of) and get a new one made.
The old one (below) was quickly made, the seams drive me crazy and the kids like to pick at them so I know it doesn’t have much time left. Don’t judge me on the witches, they were made a few years back by a seven year old who put much time and effort into them 🙂
MB and I drove to Michaels to look for something that could be used for the board. My husband had offered to build a two sided one out of wood but honestly I wanted it done now (not in husband time of up to 6 months from now) and I also really wanted something more lightweight so that it was easier to move around and also if it fell on the kids it wouldn’t hurt.
At Michaels I ended up with a 20×30″ foam poster board. They didn’t have a selection of thick poster boards like I thought they would (or I didn’t find them anyway) and the foam boards were all that I saw so that’s what I ended up with. Honestly I think it’s a perfect board and I’m glad it’s what I got. I did think it may be a bit too large but after I got home with it and started thinking about all the projects I wanted to do I decided not to make it smaller.
I also bought a large piece of white felt. I wished they had a light blue but the white was all they had (besides cheetah print, which is a bit much!). I guess I could have gone elsewhere but really I didn’t want to drive all over town just for felt.
This is what I used:
– 20×30″ foam board (like $2.99 @ my Micheals store)
– 36×36″ white felt (also 2.99 I believe)
– glue gun (I already had. Tacky glue may work but it may take longer to do each side. Duct tape also maybe?)
I just used the glue gun to tack one side on then pulled it tight across, glued the other side and finished by smoothing it out and doing the remaining sides. I thought about putting some glue on the actual felt board side but other than a dab in the middle I decided against it.
