Do you need to make playdough but don’t have any cream of tarter in hand? I think this is me nearly every time I go to make more playdough lately. I never remember what recipe I prefer to use so I decided to try 2 that I have written down in my recipe book. Both are listed below:
No Cream of Tarter Playdough Recipe #1
Instructions (with photos):>
-Cook over low/medium heat, stirring frequently. Once it begins to thicken, add the food coloring. Continue stirring until the mixture is much thicker and begins to gather around the spoon.
– Play and enjoy!
Overall I think this playdough turned out well. Its definitely not as smooth and elastic as the ones that have glycerin or cream of tarter but for playdough it works great. The kids really liked it but I don’t know how long it will last as it seems to be drying out quicker than the other recipes I’ve tried. Just make sure it’s stored in an air tight container.
No Cream of Tarter Playdough Recipe #2
-1 cup flour
-1/2 cup salt
-1 tbsp. cooking oil
-1 tbsp. cream of tartar
-1 c. water
-Food coloring
-Mix all ingredients and add to pan. Cook over medium-low heat stirring constantly, when dough starts to clump add food coloring
Take dough out of pan (don’t forget it will be warm) and knead a few times to even out the playdough. Then play and enjoy!
Also a great playdough for kids! It was a little less dry than the first verision but like the other one it is less elastic because of the lack of cream of tarter. Either way the kids had a great time with it and we will get multiple uses out of it!
-Kool-aid packet
-Spices
-Extracts
-Glitter
