Tough Cookie: A Christmas Story by Edward Hemingway
When a cookie discovers he does NOT taste delicious, he has to find a new identity in this clever picture book twist on a holiday classic. Once upon a time, while Fox was visiting the land of Holiday Treats, a little cookie―still warm from the bakery oven―burst out the front door looking sweet and ready to be devoured. But, as it turns out, Cookie is not as fast as he thinks and when Fox finally catches him, they’re both in for a big surprise: Sugar Cookie does not taste delicious―and he’s certainly not fit to be eaten. What’s an unsavory cookie to do? Is there another option for this not-so-sweet treat?
Tough Cookie: A Christmas Story
Tough Cookie: A Christmas Story is a new take on the classic Gingerbread Man story. It begins when the fox gives chase and ends up catching the cookie man. Except when Fox tries to eat the little cookie man they discover that he tastes terrible! But a cookie is supposed to taste good! What is Tough Cookie to do? He is a cookie that doesn’t taste good! Oh no! It is an entertaining Christmas story with fun illustrations.
Both my kindergarten and preschool aged children loved the story and the illustrations. The story is engaging and fun. Tough Cookie has to figure out what to do when he realizes that he doesn’t taste good. He tastes nothing like other sugar cookies! He and Fox decide to try and sweeten him up through trial and error but it doesn’t seem to work. Cookie discovers that there are other things a tough cookie can do, not all cookies are meant to be eaten.
It’s a fun story about getting to know yourself and doing what’s best for you rather than what is expected.
My kids loved looking through the illustrations. There is quite a large cast of cute holiday themed characters all through the book. My preschoolers like to just look through the book and try to find new silly characters, currently the Santa cookie man is their favorite. The images are colorful and whimsical.
