Its that time of year when we break out the candy cane scented playdough!!! When I whip out this recipe & we make up our first a batch of this candy cane playdough I feel like it’s officially the start of the holiday season for us. We usually make this right after (or just before) Thanksgiving & use it well into the new year.
Candy Cane Scented Playdough Recipe
Every time I make a new batch of scented playdough I think “man this is totally my favorite” but in all reality, this one actually is the one I love the most! I swear every time I make this or anytime the kids play with it my purchases of peppermint mocha’s skyrockets because it totally gets me craving them!
- 1 cup flour
- ΒΌ cup salt
- Β½ Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 Tbsp. Peppermint extract
- Red food coloring
Note: I made 2 separate batches of this, one red and one white because I prefer to add the color in the water vs kneading it in after. So if you plan to make one batch, separate, then knead in the color you will need to double the recipe or just be aware you will have a smaller batch of each color than what’s pictured.
Instructions for candy cane playdough:
- In a large pot, combine all dry ingredients and mix
- Add in vegetable oil, food coloring, and water, stir (I add the food coloring to the water prior to mixing it into the dry ingredients)
- Cook over medium heat until the dough pulls away from pot and starts to become dry.
- Remove from heat, let cool, and knead
- If the dough feels too sticky, knead in a Tbsp of flour
It may sound like a lot of work but really the cooking process takes about three minutes at the most, it sounds like more work than it actually is.
I wish that you could smell this! If you love peppermint you need to make this! π
Playtime! We added some playdough tools and cookie cutters to our playdough then the kids were off. They made all kinds of Christmas and holiday-themed creations
