Rice + Easter eggs = Fun toddler Easter egg art project!
Are you dying Easter Eggs with your kids? With my large group of toddlers in my home daycare, I’m not brave enough to do it this year but we are doing a bunch of crafts and art projects to make our own Easter Eggs! We recently made some cotton ball painted Easter eggs that are perfect for your wall or fridge and with all the excitement around eggs and Easter we decided to do some more Easter art! This time with glue and rice!
Rice Easter Egg Art Project for Toddlers
This craft is art and sensory play all rolled into one activity for toddlers (and preschoolers too!). All you need is some colored rice, glue, and paper.
How to Dye Rice:
- Add about 1/2 to 1 tbsp vinegar for every 1 cup of rice
- Add the desired amount of food coloring to the bag
- Add rice
- Seal bag and shake until evenly coated
- Spread out on wax paper-lined cookie sheet to dry
To make our Easter eggs I drew an egg shape on a piece of construction paper then gave each of the girls some glue, a brush, and some rice and off they went.
My toddlers are getting more proficient with the glue bottles but they also used brushed to smear the glue around, it worked out great because it helped them spread the glue around rather than just having one large pile in the middle of their paper.

Adding the rice was the best part! They would put handfuls on and then rub it around to make sure all the glue areas had rice covering them. They love rice art!
When they dried simply shook off the excess rice, cut out the egg shape I had drawn prior to starting, and then we hung them up! Simple rice art Easter eggs! I love the way they turned out and happily, there isn’t much rice that falls off after the initial shake.
