It’s hard to pick just 10 of our favorite Halloween books for toddlers! But like with our favorite Halloween preschool books I picked the ones that have been the most loved over the years by may daycare kids. Feel free to leave a comment with your favorites below!
Our top 10 Halloween books for toddlers, in no particular order:
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson – “The witch and her cat are happily flying through the sky on a broomstick when the wind picks up and blows away the witch’s hat, then her bow, and then her wand! Luckily, three helpful animals find the missing items, and all they want in return is a ride on the broom!” A favorite with my kids. I love the illustrations and the story but I’ll admit I wasn’t sold on it at first. It took a few readings (and we’ve read it a lot) before it started to grow on me. It really is a great book that entertains both my older toddlers and younger preschoolers.
Who’s There on Halloween? by Pamela Conn Beall & Susan Hagen Nipp “Encourages readers to play along and use the clues to name the holiday characters hidden inside.” A great read for the younger crowd. Cute illustrations and fun rhymes are a great way to introduce Halloween creatures and fun!
Five Little Ghosts by Patricia Hegarty – “Five little ghosts at the end of the day are on the lookout for somewhere to play. Follow the adventures of five little ghosts in this comical rhyming caper!” Fun rhyming book for toddlers! The girls had a great time reading this and thought that the little ghost were so funny and silly.
Five Little Pumpkins by Dan Yaccarino- Great book to go with the song! We read/sing it a few times every day lately! Perfect book for keeping kids engaged!
Ten Timid Ghosts by Jennifer O’Connell – “Ten ghosts, a witch, and a haunted house make this Halloween countdown a spooky treat!” This one is also one that we both read and sing with often.
Little Boo by Stephen Wunderli – “The leaves fall, the wind blows, and one little pumpkin seed tries and tries to be scary. But he doesn’t scare anyone… The wind tells him to be patient—he’ll be scary soon enough.” Another book full of great illustrations! This is such a cute story about the little pumpkin seed that wants to be a scary pumpkin… or does he?
Goodnight, Little Monster by Bonnie Leick & Helen Ketteman – “Little Monster needs to get ready for bed. That means howling at the moon, scrubbing his scales, getting into his creepy PJs, and enjoying a nice snack before bed: worm juice and baked beetle bread.” I love the illustrations in this book and the kids love getting to see a peek into a baby monster’s day.
Llama Llama Trick or Treat by Anna Dewdney – “Time for Llama Llama to find the perfect costume, pick out a pumpkin for a jack-o’-lantern, and then go trick-or-treating” Who doesn’t love the Llama Llama book Series? My girls are obsessed!
Click, Clack Boo! by Doreen Cronin – “Farmer Brown does not like Halloween. So he draws the shades, puts on his footy pajamas, and climbs into bed.” Halloween take on the classic board book for toddlers!
The Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin by Sonali Fry – “A little pumpkin is trying to find his way back home! And with a little help from a friendly witch, he is soon safe and sound, back on his porch” I love the illustrations on this one, very bright and colorful! My kids love this book and it’s a great Halloween twist on the “The Itsy Bitsy Spider!”

This is a really good compilation of Halloween themed children’s books. There are some here that I haven’t heard of and will be looking up at the library. Thank you for sharing and for linking up this week to the Thoughtful Spot Weekly Blog Hop.
