Fall is here and that means lots of fun with apples and leaves! Today broke out this simple felt board apple tree set that is perfect for toddlers learning to count!
We’ve been busy playing with apple pie playdough and exploring leaves on the light table but our felt board has been neglected. To give it a fresh look for fall I put together this felt board apple tree activity for the kids. I out it together during naptime so it doesn’t take a lot of time to set up.
Felt Board Apple Tree Counting Game
Our apple counting set currently only goes up to five, my daughter and the daycare kids are all younger toddlers so they are still learning one through five. You could easily adapt it and add more numbers for larger counting practice by adding more apples and buckets.
To make these I just drew the tree and apples out on felt and cut out. I glued a few details onto my apples, like the stems and leaves. From tan felt I cut out several basket shapes and labeled them with numbers one through five. If you don’t want to draw it freehand you can Google an apple/tree template then print and trace it.
The kids practice sorting by number, counting, and getting the baskets in number order. It’s a super easy felt board activity that provides lots of hands-on learning for toddlers. My kids really enjoy this felt board apple tree activity! I usually rotate the activities weekly because they tend to get bored but this one has been up for two weeks and they still are having a lot of fun with it.
