Wood Slice Pumpkin Craft for Kids
We love all things fall and Halloween crafts are some of our favorites! These simple wood slice pumpkins are a staple that we make every year. Most of my daycare kids make several and then we attach them all together. They look so cute as a table decoration or on a mantel. They fit both fall and Halloween lesson plans and are so easy to set up. Try them today!
Here’s the step-by-step tutorial to make these wood slice pumpkins:
Pumpkin Craft Supplies:
- Wood Slices (local craft stores may have these also)
- Orange Acrylic Paint
- Paint Brush
- Green Pipe Cleaner
- Permanent Marker
- Glue Gun
- Scissors
Get out your wood slices and orange acrylic paint. Use a paintbrush to paint one side of the wood slice and then set it aside until it is dry enough to write on.
Next, cut your green pipe cleaner into smaller pieces (we cut ours into four pieces) and twist around a thin marker/pencil or permanent marker to create a curled stem for your pumpkin.
Use a glue gun to attach the pipe cleaner to the top of your wood slice as the stem.
The last step is the most fun! When the paint has dried use a permanent marker to give your pumpkin a face. Make them happy, sad, silly, or even a bit spooky! My kids went with mostly happy but we got a sad one too. Get creative!
Stand your little pumpkins up and display them on a mantel or on your table for Halloween!
If you bought the craft version of these wood slices then they usually have a flat spot on one side that makes it easy for them to stand up and be displayed. For natural ones, you sometimes can find a flat spot but it’s also helpful to hot glue the sides of several together. This will help them stand up together. You can also just lean them on each other and they easily stand up together and look great on display.
