This coffee filter flower craft is a perfect art activity to do with toddlers in spring or even summer! It’s a low prep activity for you but kids love it and the results are colorful and pretty!
My daughter and the daycare kids are really into exploring flowers. We have a flower arranging sensory bin set up and we even made collages with flowers. Recently, during our daily walks, they’ve really wanted to pick flowers to bring home and hang in the play area. Of course, we can’t pick flowers from people’s yards so instead, I threw together this simple art project. We can make our own flowers to decorate the playroom.
Coffee Filter Flower Craft for Toddlers
Materials Needed:
- Coffee Filters
- Markers
- Water
- Pipe Cleaners
This is so easy and super low prep. To get started you just need coffee filters and markers. That’s it! No fancy art supplies needed for this toddler craft!
Now just let your toddlers go wild with markers on the coffee filters. Toddlers are all over the place when it comes to coloring and this project embraces that! Let them color all over the coffee filter.
The only recommendation that I have is to pick colors that blend together well. When you add water to them in the next step you don’t want to add up with brown and odd-colored flowers.
When the kids have finished coloring on their coffee filters it’s time to blend! All you need is a paintbrush and a bit of water. I only give my toddlers a small splash of water in a dish. The water goes a long way so they only need a bit. If you add too much it can wash the colors out.
Hang them up or leave on a paper towel to dry. They dry quickly! Also, just a quick note that the colors do bleed through the coffee filters when you add the water. Make sure you use washable markers for easy cleanup!
When the filters have dried it’s time to turn them into coffee filter flowers. Fold the coffee filter in half and pinch the bottom center. Wrap a green pipe cleaner around and you’re done.
Super easy and they turn out so colorful! They remind me of tie-dye colored flowers. We have a bunch of them all over our playroom!
Give them a try today!
