This pumpkin counting activity for preschoolers is perfect for fall!
Kids are back in school and the weather is getting cooler! As fall begins we’re seeing pumpkins pop up everywhere and the kids love learning about them. To go with our introduction to counting and numbers I made this simple Montessori-inspired pumpkin counting set. It’s super easy to make and provides hours of fall learning!

Pumpkin Counting Activity For Preschoolers
Materials:
- Pumpkin Template (see below)
- Acrylic Pumpkins
- Light Table (optional)
The pumpkins are just a simple template I created then printed, colored, and laminated. You can download it here 👇
Pick the Word Version or PDF Version version. You can create as many as your kids need. We did one through ten until the kids had that mastered and then I added more.
The pumpkin counters are acrylic table decorations I found at Michaels craft store in their fall/Thanksgiving department. The package contained multiple sizes and color variations of small acrylic pumpkins. Later I found smaller, single-colored, acrylic pumpkins at Target in their $1.00 section so you could grab those to use as well. Target also had acrylic leaves in the $1.00 section, that would be great with our fall tree light table activity!
This pumpkin county activity is super easy to set up. I just put the pumpkins and pumpkin gems in a container on the table (or light table) and the kids could pull them out as they wanted. My younger group of preschoolers is just starting to do these beginning math and counting activities so I added value dots to each pumpkin counter. That way they could correct themselves if they needed. My older group has a set with just the numbers.

We also use this on the light table for an extra fun spin on it!! My daycare kids loved the way the colors popped when they used it on the light table. My photos don’t do it justice.

Thanks! The pumpkin number cards I just colored with a marker and then laminated 🙂 They were super easy! The counters themselves I got at Micheal's craft store in the fall section, they're made to be table decorations I believe.
